Diana van Miltenburg, natural hairdresser in Alphen aan den Rijn and surroundings

About me

I am Diana, owner of The Natural Hairdresser.

The treatments I give may be different from what you are used to, because The Natural Hairdresser is not a traditional hair salon, but a natural hair care salon. This means that I work from a natural and environmentally conscious vision, with a strong focus on proper hair and scalp care. You can come to me for hair-friendly treatments such as plant-based hair colouring, natural hair care, hair enhancement and a natural approach to hair and scalp complaints.

I am a qualified all-round hairdresser, make-up artist and bridal stylist and am a member of the network of hair and scalp specialists. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience within external care. I have worked as a top stylist at various hair salons, hairdresser teacher at an intermediate vocational school and as a technical consultant and trainer for a luxury hairdressing brand. To stay professionally competent, I regularly attend workshops and courses, so that my knowledge in various fields remains up-to-date.

How it all began

I used to always want to be a hairdresser. As a little girl, I used to make my mother's most beautiful pigtails on Sunday mornings and always combed her hair very thoroughly. So it was no surprise to my parents that I wanted to go to hairdressing school. After successfully completing my education, I started working in hairdressing. Later, I also worked in hairdressing school, then as a technical consultant and salon trainer, and eventually I started working for myself as a self-employed person.

I used to be a traditional hairdresser, as most people know them, so I worked with synthetic products and chemical hair dyes. Back then, I was completely unaware that things could also be different and kinder to people and the environment. At one point, I started getting annoyed by the strong fumes of hair dye. I noticed that this was not pleasant to breathe in all day and use on the scalp. That became the beginning of my journey as a natural hairdresser.

I noticed an increasing number of people with various sensitivities, allergies and eczema. My own sensitivity to chemical hair dyes was also increasing. So I switched to ammonia-free hair dye with caring organic ingredients and a line of ECO products. At the time, I thought I had made a responsible choice and trusted the manufacturer's knowledge.

Some time later, I saw a documentary on microplastics. That made a big impression on me and made me increasingly aware of the impact of microplastics. Meanwhile, I had also found and downloaded the app Beat the Microbead. When I started using it, I was shocked. Almost all my supposedly ECO products turned out to contain microplastics.

During the same period, my eldest son developed alopecia and lost all his hair. We visited several medical specialists and later explored the alternative circuit with a mesologist. I wondered if I could still do something for him myself, so I started to delve further into natural treatment protocols, purity of products and additional education in this field. So I learned more about different treatment methods for skin and scalp, about good and less desirable ingredients and how to recognise them. I also became increasingly aware that many traditional hairdressing products can be harmful to skin, hair and the environment.

The Natural Hairdresser became a reality

After a period when I was out of work due to corona, I knew for sure: I want to do things completely differently. With me, no more treatments with aggressive chemical ingredients that can weigh hair down, but plant-based colouring, making hair look fuller and working with natural products that care for hair and scalp. This is how The Natural Hairdresser was born: a salon with a natural and environmentally conscious vision, focusing on hair and scalp care.

I work with natural products such as plants, herbs, oils and grooming products without unnecessary additives. The products and plant-based hair colourings I work with are composed entirely naturally. With the right care and appropriate products, this can contribute to beautiful, shiny and groomed hair. Because I work with natural products, you won't find strong chemical fragrances in the salon, but rather the scents of essential oils and natural ingredients, such as the earthy scent of plant powders.

Personal attention is always paramount with me. No rushing, but peace and attention. I really take the time for you. Everyone has his or her own style and taste, which is why I give you professional, tailor-made advice. Of course, this also includes advice for your home, so you can enjoy the result for as long as possible.

Experience what beautiful, natural products can do for hair and scalp and discover a different way of caring.

Nature has so much beauty to offer us. Did you fancy a natural treatment? You are most welcome.

Warm greetings,
Diana
